Insights from Nature to be Better Humans
What I learned from living around more trees and animals than humans
I didn’t even meet Noam until this book was completed.
I had discovered his musings on Facebook more than two years earlier. The thread that connected us is the small Central American treasure called Costa Rica. I lived there for 11 months with my family some years ago and fell under the spell, as countless others have the culture, the jungles, the creatures, the beaches, and the people gave me a sense of being home. Noam had the same experience, and is still in Costa Rica. I, on the other hand, am not - but it changed my life forever. Now I live vicariously through my CR friends by stalking their social media. (Totally normal, yes?)
I am an avid fan of Noam’s artful meditations. I am constantly inspired by his endless pursuit of expansion in his mind and his life. He recently wrote about his evolving experiences as a human in the context of “having rich and abundant personalities, and having more than boxed in pre-packaged desires and dreams.” He is an encyclopedia of different life experiments and experiences. His brand of wisdom is informed by risks many of us will simply never take. Basically, his content is overflowing with juicy insights. One day I made some rough doodles of some of my favorites and shared them with Noam, and the rest is history.
Each work in this book was a delightful little reflection meditation for me, a quiet moment practicing my handwriting again and letting the organic doodles flow. A time for me to consider my own interpretation of the quote I was bringing to life. I believe the quotes shared in this book are very open to interpretation; like music, I know they will play different melodies for different people. I wish I could hear what they will play for you.
I’d like to open this book a recent quote by Noam about allowing yourself to have more than pre packaged dreams and limitations.
“Turns out that it’s not about not knowing what you want... but about having rich and abundant personalities, and having more than a boxed in pre-packaged desires and dreams….who could you be tomorrow if you didn’t know who you were yesterday?”
Welcome to Noam’s world through my calligraphy
